Web Programming:

Web programming can range from simple HTML to very intricate scripting languages used to be an intermediary between HTML pages and databases. Web Programming is a term used to describe the action of constructing a webpage or website. Programmers typically are their own kind of people. A good web programmer can develop functionality that will save time in the future by creating easy to use interfaces that will simplify users task(s) in a website.

The most commonly used scripting languages are PHP, ASP, and JAVA. However other languages used include but are not limited to Cold Fusion and JSP. This doesn’t mean that one is better than the other, they are simply different languages, like speaking Spanish or French, or English. Each language is capable of constructing intricate calculations by using it’s own unique syntax. Programmers typically speak 1 language great. And while they may have knowledge of other languages and be able to program, or code (the action of programming) in other languages, their native language will always be easier to work in.

Here at the Web Squad we use PHP and ASP, the two most commonly used languages on the internet. PHP was an open source (free to use) code that many programmers have learned as their native tongue because it is open source. ASP is a language developed by Microsoft which is free to learn however to actually deploy in a usable or testing environment, cost a little money. So many programmer have started using PHP and then been forced to learn ASP. Most large enterprise businesses use ASP because of it’s integration with other Microsoft components.

When it comes to making your website look a certain way, the correct term to use is Web Design, not Web Programming. Website design work is usually done by a more creative artist type person. A dreadful website can fall into many classes. You may ask what makes up a dreadful website? Ok here’s your answer:

All websites have purpose, if a website does not fulfills its purpose it is dreadful.

Websites can look so great with flashy movements and sounds, but yet lack important functionalities like the ability to write information to a database or be indexed by search engines because it was constructed solely in flash. This can make a beautiful and expensive website useless.

On the other hand, a website can detract users from wanting to interact with it if there is not enough cool stuff happening. A website can be filled with useful information, all search indexable; but if the website boars its guests and users log off too quick, then what is the point of this website.

This is why it is so important when The Web Squad creates a website to determine the users that will be visiting the website. We discuss the business model of clients to determine where functionalities become and aid to the their business.
